Dreaming of an away-from-it-all tropical hideaway, a Bali holiday suffused with luxury—secluded yet in a hip happening location? Sol y Mar delivers this and so much more. The vast expanse of the Indian Ocean in all its glory commands centre-stage at this stunning five-bedroom villa, magnificently perched on the cliffs above Nunggalan beach in Uluwatu on Bali’s southwestern shore.
The cool contemporary-meets-traditional interiors showcase beautifully crafted furniture and well-curated artworks, carvings and artefacts resting under soaring teakwood-lined pavilion roofs. Naturally, walls of glass feature everywhere to reveal the spectacular ocean vista—a sure-fire scene stealer whether guests are sprawling on a sun lounger on the sculpted cliff-edge lawn, taking a cooling dip in the infinity pool, day-dreaming on the four-poster bed in the master suite, or dining on the freshest seafood under a canopy of stars.
With spacious living areas, large bedroom suites, breezy butler service, and the attention of an accomplished chef to whip up delicious meals and sunset barbecues, Sol y Mar is the perfect villa for one or two families holidaying together.
While there may be little incentive to leave this private slice of paradise, the pristine white-sand beach below the villa is a 20-minute walk, and a short drive will bring you to uber-cool beach clubs, trendy restaurants and world-renowned resorts. How perfect is that?

Location
Villa Sol y Mar is located on the Bukit Peninsula on the southernmost tip of Bali, a limestone tableland boasting some of Bali’s most glamorous villas, private estates and boutique hotels. Perched high on a bluff with astonishing ocean views, the villa rests in a small enclave of exclusive villas, giving the advantage of both privacy and security. Immediately below, the Indian Ocean laps onto the white sands of Nunggalan Beach, one of Bali’s most beautiful, secluded and least visited beaches accessed by a steep path to the side of the villa. Puri Luhur Uluwatu, Bali’s revered sea temple, is a 10-minute drive away, as is Bulgari Resort. Close at hand are some of Bali’s best beaches and surf breaks, as well as cool day-pass beach clubs and myriad bars and restaurants. The airport is 40 minutes away.
More information for Things to doDespite its sense of seclusion, Sol y Mar is well placed to explore the myriad attractions and activities of The Bukit and beyond. The Villa Manager and his team are happy to share insider information on the best places to visit, as well as arrange transport or make any bookings. They can also share insights into Bali’s unique culture and way of life.
If you can tear yourself away from this piece of paradise, here are some ideas for outings to whet your appetite:
- Nunggalan Beach: Directly below Sol y Mar, and a steep 20-minute hike down an unpaved path that starts right at the villa entrance - an adventure in itself. But worth it when you reach the deserted stretch of golden sand and clear shallow waters. Look out for the graffiti-covered shipwreck that sits on the sand at low tide.
- Other Bukit beaches: Sol y Mar is well placed to access other beautiful beaches in the area, including Nyang Nyang, Pandawa, and the famed surfing breaks at Padang Padang and Bingin beaches.
- Uluwatu Temple: The dramatic clifftop setting of Pura Uluwatu, one of Bali’s nine key directional temples, is simply breathtaking. It's a great place to experience Balinese culture, particularly the famed kecak dance, while witnessing Bali’s fiery sunset. Watch out for those mischievous monkeys.
- Beach Clubs: Within a short 15-minute drive are two must-visit day-to-night beach clubs. Savaya Beach Club enjoys a stunning clifftop location while Sundays Beach Club rests on the white-sand beach within metres of the sea. Great places to kick back and relax, have a sand-between-the-toes lunch, enjoy a sunset barbecue or dance into the night with visiting bands and DJs.
- New Kuta Golf Club: A breezy clifftop location high above Dreamland Beach affording endless ocean views make this a fabulous golf club for both beginners and experienced players. Facilities include a pro shop, restaurant, and practice areas.
- Literally take flight with a paragliding trip further along the cliff; there are several experienced operators in the area. It’s an amazing way to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the spectacular landscape of The Bukit. You can choose to fly tandem with an experienced pilot or solo for the experienced. Courses are also available.
- No holiday in Bali is complete without a seafood meal at Jimbaran Bay, famed for its many warung (local eateries) that serve the freshest seafood brought in the same morning by Bali’s fishermen. Candlelit tables are set right on the beach, the very best spot for catching Bali’s equally famed sunsets.
- Garuda Wisnu Kencana: Dominated by an enormous statue of the Hindu god Vishnu riding the mythical bird Garuda, visible for miles, this culture park showcases Bali’s rich heritage, offering a unique blend of art, culture, and entertainment.
